Copyright in the digital school: The new copyright framework in a practical test
Synopsis
Can I include images from the Internet in my materials, show music by current artists in class, or play videos in class? – These are questions that arise every day in the digital school, because in the modern classroom almost every use of media is relevant under copyright law.
Carina Mäs examines how teaching and learning can be carried out in compliance with copyright law on the basis of the teaching restriction § 60a UrhG – which is based on the european requirements of the InfoSoc Directive and DSM Directive - and in which cases acts of use continue to require the consent of the rights holder. In the light of the most recent reforms, she shows to what extent the framework conditions of educational copyright law require further adaption.
